Design & Technology

Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, children learn to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. Through design and technology, children can acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines including maths, science, art, oracy, computer coding, engineering, and architecture.

At Brook Field, the aims of design and technology are:

  • to develop imaginative thinking in children and enable them to talk about what they notice in existing designs and how things can be adapted for different purposes

  • to enable children to talk, using technical language, about how things work and to draw and model their ideas

  • to support our children to select appropriate tools and techniques for making a product, whilst

    following safe procedures

  • to develop an understanding of technological process, products, their manufacture and this

    contribution to society

  • to foster enjoyment, a sense of pride and purpose when designing and making.
