Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, children learn to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. Through design and technology, children can acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines including maths, science, art, oracy, computer coding, engineering, and architecture.
At Brook Field, the aims of design and technology are:
to develop imaginative thinking in children and enable them to talk about what they notice in existing designs and how things can be adapted for different purposes
to enable children to talk, using technical language, about how things work and to draw and model their ideas
to support our children to select appropriate tools and techniques for making a product, whilst
following safe procedures
to develop an understanding of technological process, products, their manufacture and this
contribution to society
to foster enjoyment, a sense of pride and purpose when designing and making.
