At Brook Field we recognise the importance of children attending school every day, to maximise their social, emotional well-being and learning.
However, we do understand that there are times when children can’t or shouldn’t attend school, particularly if they are unwell.
If your child is not well enough to attend school please phone the school as early as possible and leave a message on the absence line – 01793 874582 option 1. Please state clearly your child’s name, their teacher’s name and the reason for their absence.
If your child has been sick and/or had diarrhoea we ask that they do not attend school for 24 hours or in more severe cases 48 hours after their last episode. This follows advice from the Public Health Agency and is designed to stop the spread of sickness.
Wherever possible medical, dental, optician’s and other such appointments should be made outside school time. If this is not possible, please let the class teacher and the office know about the appointment, and whether your child needs to leave school early or will be arriving late. It helps us if you can arrange to pick up / drop off your child outside of break and lunchtimes.
In line with the most recent legislation, Working Together to Improve School Attendance (2024) requests for absence for recreational purposes/to attend a holiday during term time will not be authorised. Absence due to other exceptional circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis by completing and returning an application for leave of absence form before committing to any firm travel plans (see link below). Your request will be considered as quickly as possible and you will be advised whether or not the absence can be authorised. If an absence is not authorised, you could be ay risk of receiving a Penalty Notice.
