Year 4 chose the music ‘Winter’ by Vivaldi which describes the biting cold, gusting wind, trembling bodies, and chattering teeth that this season brings. His inspiration for the music came from a sonnet (poem) and the main instrument featured is a violin, which is played solo and as part of an orchestra. We created our own winter sonnets and wintry artwork with snowy fields, a Northern Lights sky and silver birch trees. We performed a frozen dance using the music as inspiration and composed a piece of music as a class to imitate winter weather. We focused on the element 'texture' and layered our sounds using voice percussion, body percussion and percussion instruments. Together we represented the sounds of wind, scurrying animals, trudging feet and dripping icicles, working fantastically as a whole class.
