Welcome to Brook Field School. Each term, we will be providing an outline of the topics that your child will be carrying out and an idea of the types of activities that they will be doing on a topic web.
During your child's first term at school, the topics will be 'Starting School' and 'Ourselves'. Through a range of activities, we aim to provide opportunities for your child to develop in the seven areas of learning and development of Foundation Stage. We will be undertaking fun activities in both the indoor and outdoor environments so please ensure that your child has appropriate clothing to wear in the various weather conditions i.e. for a cold, winter's day, a warm coat with a hood as we do go outside in all weathers. We would like children to have named Wellington boots in school so that they can wear these if needed.
Please label everything. Please remember to label lunchboxes on the outside.
Each Friday, we will provide your child with a snack and so they do not need to bring in a snack from home on these days. This snack is usually related to the topic and the children often help to make it. To cover the cost for this, we ask for a donation of £12 for the whole year. If you have not already done so please pay this as soon as possible.
All children need to have a named water bottle in school each day so that they have access to water (no juice please). Please ensure that there is clean water in your child's bottle at the start of each day. Your child's healthy morning snack (which could be vegetable sticks, a piece of fruit or bread sticks etc.) also needs to be labelled. These go in the boxes inside the classrooms.
Please remember to check your child's book bag (no backpacks please as they do not fit in the drawers) each day for letters etc. Your child's book bag should be kept in their drawer. The drawers are also used to put their jumpers and sunhats in. We request that children do not bring their own toys into school.
After a few weeks, your child will be bringing home their phonic book. On your child's reading day this needs to be put into the reading box in their classroom so that new sounds can be added. Each sheet will have a new sound and action on it to practise at home. They can also colour in the sheet and practise writing the letters.
