Welcome back to another exciting science orientated term focusing on ‘Animals’ and ‘Light’. We will kick start our term with an engaging, hands on trip to Lower Shaw Farm where the children will be immersed in Farm life and learn all about the various animals, their habitats, diet and nutrition. They will also be able to identify different animals by their skeleton and muscle types.
The rest of the animal topic focuses around human and animals musculoskeletal systems, identifying important bones and their functions and classifying animals depending on whether they are vertebrates or invertebrates. Within our ‘light’ topic we will be exploring how we can see different objects when light is reflected off them and how the size and shape of shadows can be altered.
In English we will start to look at stories, particularly fables and then steer towards non-fiction writing with non-chronological reports. Dick King Smith will be our author focus as many of his stories are about, or relate to, animals.
Within Maths we will continue to look at fractions and then focus on geometry, concentrating on angles of properties of shape. We still encourage your child to practice their times tables and club badge!
In RE we have two exciting visits to St Mary’s Church, Lydiard Park and Holy Trinity Church, Shaw so we can compare the features and artefacts found in the two churches and understand their wider purpose in the community.
Our swimming sessions will continue on Monday 8th May – a letter will go out regarding this. Our other PE session is outside on a Friday afternoon, where we will look at striking and fielding.
More details about this term can be found on our topic web.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. If you would like to help and offer your expertise in a certain topic area then it would be greatly received.
