Yr 3 - Term 4 - Flower Power & Attractive Magnetism

Welcome back to a term 4! We hope you all had a good half-term holiday and were able to do lots of different and fun things. Term 3 was a very busy term, with the children excited by our “Revolting Romans and Crafty Celts” topic. We had a fantastic visit to Corinium Museum, made Roman-inspired pizzas and had an inspiring visit from Arteous Severus Britannicus.

Our new topic for this term is a total change from our previous three topics in Year 3. It is Science-based, and all about Plants and Magnets – “Flower Power and Attractive Magnetism.” We will investigate the different parts of plants and their functions, what plants need to live and grow and the importance of flowers to a plant’s life-cycle. During our work on magnets, we will have the opportunity to explore north and south poles and whether they attract or repel, magnetic/non-magnetic materials and the strength of different types of magnet.

In English, we will be looking at performance poetry and we will also be writing explanation texts linked to our science topics. We look forward to World Book Day too which is celebrated on Thursday 2nd March!

In computing we will be looking at the program ‘Scratch Junior’ to program an animation to show the growth and a development of a plant.

In PSHE we will be thinking about ‘Healthy Me’ and will be learning about being fit and healthy, as well as staying safe in and around our homes.

Swimming will continue this term. Please ensure that your child’s swimming kit is in school each Monday. Our other P.E sessions are on Friday afternoons and we hope to be able to go outside again for some Orienteering; it is essential that PE kits, including appropriate footwear, is named and remains in school all week long. If the weather is cold, please send your child with suitable warm PE clothing (eg tracksuit) on a Friday for Orienteering.

Homework is handed out on a Friday and is due back in the following Wednesday. Please make sure your child places their homework in the correct tray!

We thank you for your continued support! If you’d like to offer any expertise or would like to talk to us at any time, please do. More details on our topic and other activities will be on our topic web below.
