Our topic this term is all about the magic of nature. We will begin with the children directed on a mission, from Dr Lichtenstein, to find the mysterious creature lurking in Brook Field School and Investigating the evidence left behind. This will then inspire us to write our own non- chronological report about this imaginary creature. We will finish year 5 with monologue poetry as animals.
Within numeracy, we will endeavour to make links to the topic regarding weight, fractions decimals and percentages, worded problems involving multiplication and division, addition and subtraction, money and coordinates.
During science we will be studying the life process of reproduction in plants and animals and describing the differences in the lifecycles of a mammal, an amphibian, an insect and a bird. We will also be studying how we change as we develop to old age.
Our art theme this term will be studying shape and form with the children creating their own animal/ fossil soap sculptures. Not only will our classrooms look beautiful but they will smell beautiful as well!
During PE, we will be developing our athletic skills of running, jumping and throwing and challenging ourselves to increase our speed, technique and distance. As well as increasing our skills of striking and fielding with cricket and rounders. (Just a reminder that PE is on a Monday and Tuesday afternoon and as the weather becomes warmer to ensure that the children have a hat and a water bottle in school.)
PSHE will deal with puberty, preparing the children for the emotional and physical changes that they will experience as they develop and grow. This aspect of the curriculum will also include personal Hygiene.
Finally RE will discuss how Christians have sought to follow the teachings of Jesus and will lead to the children thinking about their own role models.
As always we value the support that you give us as parents and if you can offer any help again this term please pop in and see us.
