Term 5 - Outside at Braeside

Outside at Braeside

Term 4 was very busy – and we all enjoyed learning about Electricity, particularly when we were able to build our own circuits with a variety of components.

In the fifth term our topic is all about Braeside, and everyone is very excited for the trip!

In English we will be writing recounts and diary entries focussed on our time at Braeside, and then we will write leaflets persuading people to visit Braeside for themselves. We will be touching on lots of other English genres to make our files beautiful.

In Maths we will be looking at fractions including decimals. We will also be looking at position and direction this will give us a fantastic opportunity to get outside and do some orienteering.

In Geography we will be describing and comparing the human and physical features of two contrasting places. We will also be looking at where rivers get their water, why they flood and the impact of this on the environment.

In computing we will be creating a presentation all about Braeside and our time there. We will use DB Primary to research Andy Goldsworthy and bluebells, as well as exploring the Braeside website.

During art lessons we will be creating a textured collage themed around our time at Braeside, using suitable materials to represent different landmarks we saw. Art will link with DT when we will also create our wire bugs.

In Design Technology we will be using a variety of tools and equipment to create our very own canal barge inspired from our time at Braeside.

The focus on PSHE will be relationships, knowing how to make friends, how to solve friendship problems when they occur, helping others to feel part of a group, showing respect in how they treat others, knowing how to help themselves when they are upset or angry and knowing what makes a good relationship.

In RE we will be looking at baptism in Christianity, Bar and Bat Mitzvah in Judaism and the thread ceremony in Hinduism.

During the summer term in PE we will be doing athletics and taking part in track events such as running hurdles and working as a team in the relay. A very exciting term ahead, with lots to keep us busy. More details can be found on our topic web and also on the Year 4 DB primary page which can be accessed through Brookfield's virtual learning environment. The children will be able to access topic challenges, thought provoking forum topics and a gallery of images showing our previous term in Year 4. There is also some useful website links which can further the children's learning and also allow them to have some fun out of the classroom.
