Term 4 - Electricity with Wallace & Gromit

Electricity with Wallace and Gromit.

Term 3 was very busy – and we all enjoyed learning about Scandinavia, particularly when we were able to taste a variety of traditional foods .... anyone for roll mop herrings?!

In the fourth term our topic is all about Electricity, and we are very excited for the upcoming experiments.

In English we will be writing explanation texts and play scripts focussed on our Science theme of Electricity. This will also link to Computing in which we will be creating stop motion animations. We are in touch with Aardman Animations to see if we can get some top tips from Wallace and Gromit with our playscripts and animations too, so fingers crossed. This will be our author focus for this term in order that we can magpie ideas from their books to help us with our creativity.

In Maths we will be focussing on a variety of measures and fractions including decimals.

During art lessons we will use the natural world to create textural collages and look at implied and visual texture. We will be working with clay initially and then creating some lovely designs on ceramic for Mother’s Day before creating some Easter treats at the end of term.

The focus on PSHE will be healthy bodies and healthy minds, particularly focussing on peer pressure, healthy friendships and celebrating my inner strength and assertiveness.

In R.E we will be looking at the Bible and places of worship, the sermon on the mount and the ten commandments.

During this term in PE we will be doing tennis, and gym with a focus on continuing to use the wall apparatus safely and creatively.

A very exciting term ahead, with lots to keep us busy. More details can be found on our topic web and also on the Year 4 DB primary page which can be accessed through Brookfield's virtual learning environment. The children will be able to access topic challenges, thought provoking forum topics and a gallery of images showing our previous term in Year 4. There are also some useful website links which can further the children's learning and also allow them to have some fun out of the classroom.

As always, we welcome parents with talents or time so if any of the above appeals to you and you would like to support us in school then please just get in touch.

Thank you,

Year 4 team.
