Term 4: All Aboard!

All aboard! We are looking forward to an adventurous Term 4 as we climb aboard a steam train to explore local history. We will be asking questions, researching and finding the answers about Swindon’s history of the Steam Railway. Our discovery of the railway will be exciting, as we will be kicking off our topic by going on a class trip to the STEAM Museum on the 21st of February. We are looking forward to learning about the similarities, differences and evolvement of trains over the years as well as the importance of Isambard Kingdom Brunel in Swindon’s history. In English we will continue to develop our handwriting and ability to compose by writing our very own short stories and explanation texts. We will learn the poem, ‘From a Railway Carriage’, by Robert Louis Stevenson and we will practise and perform it to our classmates. In Maths, we will be solving problems using multiplication and division, develop our understanding of fractions as well as looking at position and direction in geometry. We will continue to foster our knowledge and ability to tell time to the hour and half past. In DT, we will be making our own moving trains as we look closely at movers and sliders and their form and function in design and technology. In RE, we will be studying and exploring the story of the Prophet Muhammad and the importance of Allah to Muslims. Furthering our understanding of simple programming of a Bee-Bot, we will be sequencing instructions on iPad applications, such as Daisy the Dino, and discussing the cause and effects of such commands. In Music, we will be using our understanding of trains’ speed and physical design and build to learn, sing, and perform ‘Professor Brain’s Amazing Machine.’

 

A friendly reminder to continue to label all jumpers, kits, daps, water bottles and snack pots. Please continue to provide your child with a healthy snack; we are very proud of our healthy snack awards thus far!
