Term 1: Wonderful Weather

Welcome to Year 1! We are thrilled to have you in our classes this year. Our Autumn Term topic is Wonderful Weather. In English, we will be re-enacting various stories, such as 'Stick Man,' written by our author focus, Julia Donaldson. Also, we will be reading and re-telling such stories. We will be exploring various weathers and seasons and writing labels and captions to describe their characteristics. Each day we will be developing our handwriting whilst focusing on cursive letter formation. In Maths we will be progressing in our ability to read and write numbers from 1-20 in numerals and words. While doing so, we will focus on identifying one more and one less of a given number. This is very important for us to secure as we  will begin to count in multiples of 10 and count to 50, forwards and backwards, beginning with 0 or 1, from any given number. We will be exploring sounds and pitch in music through body movement. We also will be making our own musical instruments.  In Geography we will be using our labeling skills from English to identify and locate different patterns of weather around the UK. In Science we will look further into weather by exploring different types of weather experienced during the four seasons. From that, we will be looking at a variety of common, wild and garden plants found in the seasons. We will further our understanding of weather in Art by making a seasonal picture using hot and cold colours. In Computing, we will begin to learn how to create simple programs on the Beebot application.

Miss Hamilton's class will have PE on Thursday and Friday mornings. Mrs Woolrich's class will have PE on Wednesday and Friday mornings.  Please place your PE kit on your peg outside the classroom.

We kindly ask that you provide your child with a healthy morning snack and ensure that fresh water is in their water bottles every day.

Please make sure your child's snack pot, water bottle and PE kit is labeled with their first and last name. Any lost items, not labeled, will be placed in lost property.

Each morning your child will have a task to complete. This will be displayed on the white board in front of the classroom.
