This afternoon Dylan and Charlie from Year 3, Charlie, Harry, Penny, Bobby, Luke and Haydn from Year 4 took part in a Futsal tournament which included six other schools.
Our first game was against Even Swindon. With nerves very much visible to begin with, an early quick fire double from Harry settled these nerves, which then allowed the team to play their natural game. The game ended 7-3 to Brook Field with goals from Harry (4) Luke (2) Charlie Ash (1).
The first game gave us great confidence, we started the second game against Westlea as fast as our first with goals coming from Penny, Harry and Luke. The children began to build up valuable partnerships on the pitch which was visible to see the team ethos building. Substitutes were cheering on the team, which was brilliant to see. The final score was 7-4.
The next two games provided a great challenge to the Brook Field team, up against two teams, both, physically strong and clinical in front of goal, saw Brook Field lose both games 4-1 and 7-0 respectively. The scorelines for these games does not tell the entire story. Valiant defending from Bobby as well as Haydn, who received an injury as a result of last ditch defending. Our goalkeeper Charlie C consistently tried his best to stop the incoming shots. These are just two examples of how the entire team showed grit and determination to keep their heads up and keep going.
The team earned a well deserve break before the final two games after three back-to-back games. This gave us an opportunity to re-hydrate and rest, but, inevitably resulted in a game between themselves!
Our sixth games saw us up against Greenmeadow. This game saw a revitalised team performance. Outstanding passing and control of the ball saw goals from Bobby (1), Penny (Hat-trick!!), Harry (4) and Charlie C (1). As well as our Year Three pupils Dylan (2) and Charlie A (1), who showed great tenacity and ability up against children who were mostly a year older.
Our last game against Lawn was a thriller! Winning with a last minute strike to seal the 6-5 win! Goals from Harry (5) and Charlie C (1).
This tournament was all about having fun, which I'm sure all of the children did have lots of! I would like to thank each and every one of the pupils who represented Brook Field School, showing outstanding behavior and respect to the other schools who attended. Certificates will be sent in the following weeks which can be handed out in Assembly. A big thank you to the teachers who allowed and co-operated with the children missing half a day of school, Mr Clarke for coming out and supporting and the parents for their support which was constant throughout.
A final well done to Dylan, Bobby, Penny, Luke, Haydn, Charlie C, Charlie A and Harry!
