The Girls Football team which included: Esther, Talia, Aashika, Mollie and Cameron from Year Six as well as Charlotte, Phoebe and Rosie from Year Five all attended a Futsal Competition on Friday 27th January .
We kicked off the tournament against Abbey Meads. A brilliant early goal from Cameron was the best start we could have imagined, however, Abbey Meads did not allow us to get too comfortable with an equaliser coming soon after. Phoebe, Rosie and Charlotte came on halfway through the 10 minute game, unfortunately they could not stop Abbey Meads scoring a winning goal. The game ended 2-1 to Abbey Meads. The second game saw us up against a strong Goddard Park. The team were becoming more comfortable with the surroundings and slightly different rules than they are used to. The entire team gave 100% throughout, showing great perseverance, but Goddard Park came out eventual 2-1 winners.
Our third game came soon after which didn't give us any chance to relax or rest, but if anything, it worked in our advantage. Valiant defending from Aashika, and some great saves from Mollie in goal allowed our strike-force to push forward, which was eventually rewarded with goals from Talia (1) and Cameron (2). Some accurate passing and intelligent play from Rosie, Pheobe, Esther and Charlotte gave plenty of chances to score, which Cameron and Talia clinically took. The game finished 3-0!
Our final game against Lawn saw us finish on a high! A great goal from Cameron saw Brook Field win 1-0. Aashika put herself forward to play in goal on very short notice and played extremely well rescuing us on many occasions with some brilliant saves!
This was only the second time the girls played together as a team, with this in mind, the performances were exceptional. It was a great chance for the girls to progress and become even more established as a team, and of course, having lots of fun in the meantime! I'm incredibly proud of how each and every one of the girls performed and represented Brook Field School. Thank you for the Year Five and Six teachers for co-operating with the differing lunchtimes, Mr Stowe and Mrs Vincent for coming to support as well as the parents for their encouragement and support.
A final Well Done to: Esther, Talia, Mollie, Ashika, Cameron, Charlotte, Phoebe and Rosie!
The game started with Esther in goal, Talia and Aashika in defence, Mollie, Izzy and Rosie in midfield, with Cameron upfront. The girls kept their shape well and defended valiantly, with a lot of pressure being put on them from the Shaw Ridge attackers. Brilliant saves from Esther and last ditch defending from our top defenders Aashika and Talia. Izzy and Cameron provided us with moments of brilliant attacking play, running at the Shaw Ridge defence, threatening their goal.
In the second half Grace Munns and Charlotte Kent were introduced to the game replacing Rosie and Esther, as Cameron replaced Esther in goal for the second half. The girls kept on improving as the game went on. Mollie was upfront and had many mazy runs which, unfortunately, didn't end in a deserved goal. With more strong defending towards the end of the game we held on for the 0-0 draw.
With this being the first game the girls had as a team, myself and Mrs Vincent were incredibly proud of how they performed and represented the school, giving 100% and never giving up! A special mention to Talia Haines who is our captian, she lead the team brilliantly as well as giving three cheers to the opposition, and Izzy Dodson who was voted player of the match from the Shaw Ridge players.
