Early Season Form Continues

Brook Field continued their impressive start to the season with a 10 – 0 win over Lydiard Millicent on Thursday 29th September.

Brook Field started with Max in goal, Sam (capt) and Rhys in defence, Harvey, Finn and Josh in midfield and Ryan upfront. Oliver, Samuel and Peter were the substitutes.

Within five minutes, Finn had opened the scoring. Rhys played in Ryan with an inch-perfect pass but he dragged his shot wide. After 6 minutes, the first substitutions were made with Oliver coming on for Ryan.

Sam made it 2 – 0 with a strong finish, running onto the ball and crashing the ball into the net, for his first goal for the school team. Samuel then came on for Harvey and Peter replaced Rhys. The next action saw Samuel being brought down in the penalty area but his shot from the resulting free kick was saved. Ryan came back on for Josh.

Sam then scored a great individual goal. He collected the ball just inside the Brook Field half and drove forward. He was surrounded by three defenders mid-way into the Lydiard Millicent half. It looked like he had run into a dead end although he kept probing to try and keep the momentum of the attack going. With no Brook Field player really finding space for the pass, all options seemed to be running out for Sam. However, with a shimmy here and a twist and turn he broke past the three defenders and into the box. With the goalie blocking the right hand side of the goal, he showed too much of the left hand side of the goal to Sam who was able to pass the ball into this gap with a bit of swerve onto the shot. 3 – 0. Just before half time, Samuel continued his fine goal scoring form to make it 4 – 0.

After half time, Oliver immediately showed good determination to win the ball back in the heart of the midfield and passed it through to Samuel who was unmarked and through on goal to make it 5 – 0. Substitutions were then made with Finn, Ryan and Oliver coming off. From the re-start, Samuel won the ball, dribbled forward past several defenders and completed his hat-trick to make it 6 – 0.

Rhys was fouled on the Brook Field right. Harvey lined up the free kick and crashed an unstoppable shot high into the net from a good 15 – 20 yards out and practically on the touchline. 7 – 0.

Josh won the ball back in the Brook Field half and raced down the left wing, beating a couple of players in the process. His cross was well met by Sam racing forward from midfield and scored his hat-trick goal. 8 – 0.

Ryan came on for Samuel; Oliver replaced Peter and Sam made way for Finn. The Lydiard Millicent goalkeeper was having a very good game despite the score-line and he made a great save to keep the score as it was. Samuel then returned in place of Josh. More great defending and goalkeeping from Lydiard Millicent showed good determination by the home team to stay in the game.

Harvey hit in another fierce free-kick but this time it was cleared off the line by a defender. Ryan and Peter swapped before Finn produced another great save from the goalkeeper for a corner. Harvey took the corner and Finn running into the danger area was able to side foot the ball into the net to make it 9 – 0. Sam replaced Harvey and Josh retuned in place of Finn. Sam and Josh combined really well in a super passing move only for Josh to dribble the ball out of play. Rhys and Ryan swapped in another substitution as did Oliver and Finn before Josh completed the scoring as he turned the defenders inside out as he twisted and turned one way, then the other before unleashing a left foot shot. 10 – 0 and that’s how the match ended. Josh was voted Man of the Match by the Lydiard Millicent team.

Thanks to Mr Parsons for helping with the team and all the parents for their support, as well as Lydiard Millicent for hosting the fixture in such a sporting and excellent way.
