Brook Field entered two teams into the North Wiltshire School Chess
Competition on Monday 3rd July 2017.
Team A: Zoha, Om, Jai, Kaia
Team B; Naila, Wassim, Jobun, Ishan
There were twelve other teams there from around the county, with five
rounds to play, with twenty minutes each on the clock.
Both teams played exceptionally well throughout, with both not slipping
out of the top five. Those familiar with chess competitions will know
that the higher you are up the board the harder the opponents you will
play, and to stay near the top is not easy.
All deserve a special mention:
Zoha: winning a tough match against a fellow England player
Om: winning all his games
Jai: great attitude in all his matches
Kaia: remaining unbeaten
Naila: super team leadership, setting a top example
Wassim: scoring 13/15 at the age of 6 against 11 year olds
Jobun: scoring 13/15 in his first competition
Ishan: raising his game to the occasion for the good of the team
The final result came down to the final match of the final round, as
these things so often do, and after a tense battle Brook Field A
finished in third place behind a tied Ogbourne and Shaw Ridge A. Brook
Field B came fourth, beating most of the A teams from other schools!
It has been a pleasure for the Williams family to both found and run
the Brook Field Chess Club for the last ten years, and it was lovely to
finish on yet another success with such a fantastic group of children.
We wish them all the best for the future, and hope the success
